In short: our calculators give rough estimates to help you think things through. Don't make a decision on our numbers alone. Get quotes and, where needed, advice from qualified people first.

Estimates, not guarantees

Every result is an estimate based on UK averages, the assumptions shown on each page and the numbers you enter. Your real costs, savings, payback time and grant eligibility may be very different.

Not advice

Nothing on EnergySums is financial, investment, legal, tax or other professional advice, and nothing here recommends a particular product, tariff, supplier or installer. We aren't regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and we don't know your personal circumstances.

Figures change and vary

Energy prices, tariffs, export rates, grants and rules change often, sometimes without notice. Some of our figures are our own estimates, and all of them may be out of date by the time you read them. Results also vary by region, property, usage, equipment and tariff. Every figure, its source and its date is listed on our sources page.

Check before you decide

Before you spend money or sign anything, get written quotes from at least two or three certified installers (for example through the MCS installer search). Check live tariff and grant details with the supplier or on GOV.UK. Where a decision is significant, take advice from a qualified independent adviser.

Accuracy

We take reasonable care with our figures and formulas and we test our calculators, but we can't promise that every figure or result is complete, accurate or current.

Our responsibility to you

The site is free and gives general estimates. Because of that, we are not responsible for financial losses you suffer because you relied on a result or figure here instead of getting quotes and advice, such as money spent on equipment, a tariff you switch to, or savings that don't materialise. We are also not responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen.

This doesn't affect any liability we can't legally limit, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. It also doesn't affect your statutory rights. Our terms of use explain this in more detail.

Links and adverts

We link to other websites, such as Ofgem, GOV.UK, suppliers and installers, for your information. A link isn't an endorsement, and we aren't responsible for their content, products or services. If we show adverts or affiliate links in future, we'll label them clearly as ads where they appear, and they will never change a calculator's result.

Corrections

If you spot an error or an out-of-date figure, please email hello@energysums.co.uk. We'll check it and correct the site where needed.
